Looked like an interesting read but was quite long and laborious. There appeared to be two main characters whose paths eventually crossed. The background of the Great Fire of London was a little lost and didn’t seem to be relevant. There was a storyline throughout linked to the King and Oliver Cromwell but not that well executed. Glad to get to the end. 5/10
ReplyDeleteReally liked the mystery, history and intrigue round every corner in this book. I enjoyed the insight into one of the most historical times in London, just after the plague. You could almost taste and feel the after effects of the fire and decimation it caused in the descriptions. Really liked the cliff hanger in the roof less St. Paul’s at the end. It gave a good picture of how hard times were thereafter. No one character came across as particularly empathetic, as survival was the game at the end of the day. Full of betrayal, regicide, religion and restoration. Angela 8/10
